Design

The following questions should help you clarify the issues involved in not only choosing a designer, but in considering the nature of your web site.

  1. What do you want to accomplish with your site? Advertisement ( personal/business?) Sell a service or a product? Make a personal statement? or just have a good looking "fun" site?
  2. Do you have content ? Do you have printed or digital material already developed that you can use?
  3. Do you already have space on a server? or will you need to obtain space?
  4. Do you want a Domain name (personal address) such as "yourname.com" for your site?
  5. Have you reviewed the past web sites developed by the potential designer? ( Although a good designer will strive to please you, we believe that most designers tend to have certain design "styles")
  6. As with any contractual arrangement, have you checked out the design firm's business "track" record? Do they deliver satisfactory work when promised?
  7. Do you have a budget in mind for this project? Projects can range from the hundreds to the tens-of-thousands depending on the nature of the job.
  8. Will your sight need regular updating? Do you plan on doing this, or will you want your design firm to do it?
  9. Will you market your site? or will you need marketing services? How will you get listed with web based "Search Engines" ( programs that locate information) ? Do you have an advertising budget for this endeavor?

These are some initial and basic considerations to keep in mind when attempting to acquire a web presence.
